I love travel, and that includes a nice little staycation. Recently, I was invited to La Jolla for a blogger retreat. We got the chance to stay at La Valencia in La Jolla. I remember this hotel from one of my previous visits to La Jolla with my husband. We decided to have brunch here as one of the locals recommended it as a great place, with a view, to do just that. I remember we both mentioned the next time we came back to La Jolla we would have to stay at this hotel.
La Valencia has so much history as it opened it’s doors in 1926. You can tell by the Mediterranean style building features, terraced gardens, tranquil fountains, exquisite Spanish mosaics and stunning panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean. They call La Valencia the Monte Carlo of San Diego, and I see why.
The Rooms
The property has an array of unique accommodations available including specialty suites, studios and 16 spacious villas. The room types range from vintage, classic, villas & icon. My friend and I stayed in one of the corner villas that had a dual view of the beach and pool. The room was elegantly decorated in warm California hues, was roomy and comfortable with fantastic views.
La Valencia also recently announced a new luxury room category, The Icon, which is a stunning sky-high penthouse suite known as the Sky Suite.
The Sky Suite – Tower Wings:
This all-new, one-bedroom suite is the newest iteration of the hotel’s most dramatic ocean-inspired real-estate. Designed in a modern version of sleek, 1940’s Hollywood style, this 1,100 square feet suite dazzles with 180-degree ocean views of the Pacific and La Jolla Cover from retractable window walls that allow the Pacific breezes to envelop the senses. A hardwood floor entry opens to the living room with chic seating arrangements, dining area, and a wet bar that calls for “martini time.” The bedroom offers even more ocean views and a romantic Juliet balcony. The bathroom includes an oversized shower – with multiple side and rain shower heads – granite countertops and dual sinks.
La Valencia Villa – Villa Wing:
With its coastal inspired décor, the Villa is suspended just above beach level, overlooking the horizon of the Pacific Ocean, Scripps Park and La Jolla Cove. Featuring a total of 1,200 square feet of living space, La Valencia Villa includes a spacious living room with fireplace and vaulted ceilings and a butler’s kitchen off the dining area. Comfortable coastal inspired décor is complimented by La V’s finest collection of original oil paintings hung throughout. Expansive ocean views abound from the wrap around terrace, complete with outdoor fireplace and elegant wrought iron furniture. A master bedroom adjoins the terrace and includes a lavish marble bathroom with Jacuzzi tub, separate shower and dual sinks. The large closets and generous dressers of the villa create an ideal home-away-from-home – if all homes came with sweeping ocean views and dramatic sunsets.
The Pacific Suite – Cabrillo Wing:
This apartment-like 1,000-square-foot suite offers dramatic vistas of the ocean and coastline from the living rooms large bay window. With a more residential feel and secluded location, the suite’s entry opens to a spacious living room with wet bar, and the plush bedroom leads to a large marble bathroom with spa shower, separate Jacuzzi tub and dual sinks. The suite includes a full master bath and a separate powder room, making it ideal for entertaining. This suite is an idyllic escape for a one-night getaway or for months on end.
Amenties
Room Features: Frette linens, down comforters, Molton Brown bath amenities, personal safes, Keruig in-room coffee, gourmet private bars and complimentary high-speed wireless Internet access.
Pool: Right in the middle of the hotel is a spectacular ocean view pool with an adjoining in-ground whirlpool gazebo. We did not have time or get an opportunity to enjoy the pool, but I have to say that it is definitely one you would want to lay out by on a relaxing getaway.
