We make regular trips to the La Jolla/San Diego area. Although downtown San Diego may be more well known for its busy restaurants and nightlife, there is a small seaside area known as La Jolla in the north county of San Diego. This gem of a place is worth the stay if you get a chance with it’s posh boutiques and waterfront restaurants.

THE HOTEL }

My mother recently visited my kids and I from the Bay Area, and for a little getaway we went down to La Jolla and stayed at the Hyatt Regency La Jolla at Aventine. Its location is close to all the fantastic dining options, scenic beaches and boutique shopping. I was able to take my sons to the Birch Aquarium, which they loved, as they got to see all the various sea animals and watch the sea turtle get fed by an underwater diver!

Not only is the location ideal, but the hotel itself is also stylish with coastal comfort design elements. We were able to enjoy their Tuscany VIP Suite which has 2 connecting large bedrooms with living room. A bath featuring whirlpool tub, dining area that includes seating for six, wet bar, and space for lounging or entertaining. It also had a fantastic view that we all got to enjoy. This is a premium suite that lives up to its name. You can have a more detailed look at their various room and suite options here.

{SERVICE}

The staff at Hyatt Regency at Aventine were kind and catered to our needs, which is particularly important when you travel as a family. We find the quality hotels really know how to make your stay more comfortable and easy since you are likely already thinking about a million other moving parts.

{RESTAURANT}

We had the pleasure of eating at DRIFT. It is known to have a seasonal menu, highlighting regional ingredients. We sat indoors at a long table convenient for us as a family with 2 young children and got a chance to experience a variety of their food, which was delicious. I highly recommend ordering their short rib entree which was To.Die.For! It was so tender and just fell apart as you dug into it with your fork. Mmmmm…I can still taste the deliciousness. For desert, definitely get their chocolate sticky caramel cake. You won’t regret it. Additionally, they make wonderful crafted cocktails. The strawberry jalapeño margarita was one of the best I have had.
